Book Afterword

Writing the Manager’s Communication Toolbox was a labor of love.  If no publisher had been interested, we still would have felt the need to record the thoughts, stories, anecdotes and suggestions that filled the book’s pages.

Fortunately, a publisher did come forward; one with powerful reach into the realm of business education, and a superbly talented editorial team.  The American Society for Training and Development represents the nation’s foremost avenue of learning in human resources and associated fields (http://www.astd.org).

Critical Acclaim

All parents know their child is the brightest and best looking. So, of course, the authors thought this book had great promise.  We were pleased that professional reviewers agreed; a knowledgeable senior executive of leading P.R. agency Porter Novelli called the book “entertaining” and “a great reference for managers to keep on the bookshelf.”  Impressive educators said our work was “highly readable,” and called it “a wonderful resource for any communication student or professional.”

One of the comments we most appreciated was from the editorial page editor of Barron's National Business and Financial Weekly.  Tom Donlan wrote:

This is a good book. Managers need it. From CEOs to recent grads, managers need to communicate effectively with their colleagues, their supervisors and most of all with the public. As a business journalist, I know from sad experience that many of them need help, and this is a book that can help them.

International Recognition

bilanzSoon after the U.S. publication date, an international publisher chose the book for translation into German.  Not long afterwards, we were gratified when Bilanz, the Swiss business magazine sometimes called “the Swiss Fortune magazine,” published a picture of our translated book on their cover, calling it “one of the best recent English releases.”

Translation of the German cutline: Read critically, write persuasively, speak clearly, think logically and listen carefully.  Every manager should master this set of communication  skills.
